About the Programme

Pianist Jan Philip Schulze is a much sought-after lied accompanist. He has appeared with singers of the stature of Juliane Banse, Annette Dasch, Rachel Harnisch, Dietrich Henschel and Jonas Kaufmann. But he is also a leading interpreter of contemporary music. Now, together with the vocalists Sarah Maria Sun and Peter Schöne, he will present his first lied recital for musica viva with works by Jörg Widmann, Arnulf Herrmann, Bernhard Lang and Walter Zimmermann.

The centrepiece of the evening will be a large song cycle by Walter Zimmermann on poems by Ossip Mandelstam and Mikhail Lermontov, some of which will be sung in Russian. While Sarah Maria Sun has already made several guest appearances at Musica Viva (most recently in December 2016 with the world première of a work by Nikolaus Brass), baritone Peter Schöne is making his Musica Viva début.
